Mark your calendar: Oct 31, 2011 is a special non-working holiday

The most common question “Is October 31 a holiday in the Philippines?” has been answered: YES, it is a holiday throughout the country. Since the said date falls on a Monday, which is sandwiched by two non-working days – Sunday and Tuesday (Nov. 1, 2011 – All Saints Day), President Benigno Aquino III declared (Proclamation #265) it as a holiday as well, giving Filipinos ample time to spend with their families.

Pasig River run to benefit Pandacan

An “advocacy” fun run aimed to clean up Pasig River and Pandacan is set on November 20, 2011. The event which includes sports personalities such as the AZKALS, Volcanoes, and the Philippine Dragon Boat team, is open to everyone. The registration starts on September 10, 2011 for the 3K, 5K, and 10K categories.

The “11-20-2011 Run for the Pasig River” hopes to raise P20 million for the rehabilitation of the historic river and Pandacan, PhilStar reports.

Sen. Miguel Zubiri resigns from Senate

This afternoon, Senator Miguel “Migs” Zubiri expressed his irrevocable resignation as a senator during his privilege speech. Sen. Zubiri placed 12th in the 2007 election, leading Atty. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III by slim margin of around 20,000 votes.

Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile said this is the first time he witnessed an elected official resigning from his post.
