Feast of Black Nazarene 2012, to cause traffic in Pandacan

Tens of thousands Christians from all over the country are expected to join in the Feast of the Black Nazareno on Monday, January 9, 2012.

Due to the procession and religious activities, road closures and traffic re-routing are inevitable; and residents living around Luneta/Rizal Park and Quiapo should expect heavy traffic, including on President Quirino Avenue here in Pandacan.

According to MMDA, vehicles and motorists coming from South bound (Osmena Hi-way) should turn right on to Pres. Quirino to Nagtahan Bridge when going to their destinations.

Pandacan Brownout due to Meralco Maintenance on Jan. 8, 2012

Mark your calendar and plan ahead, people. Meralco’s scheduled maintenance MAY cause power interruptions this coming weekend (January 8, 2012) in some portions of Pandacan, in rotating hours starting 7:30AM. To verify the power interruptions schedule, you can call Meralco at the following numbers: 16211 or 631-1111.

In the News: another protest at the depot; ERDA to receive proceeds; Holiday and long weekend

  • Last week (Oct. 19), another group of protesters – militant women’s group Gabriela – “picketed the oil depot in Pandacan to denounce the latest fuel price hikes“, according to GMA News TV. The same source said “members of the group slapped stickers on trucks, with the messages on the stickers questioning the price hikes.”

Mark your calendar: Oct 31, 2011 is a special non-working holiday

The most common question “Is October 31 a holiday in the Philippines?” has been answered: YES, it is a holiday throughout the country. Since the said date falls on a Monday, which is sandwiched by two non-working days – Sunday and Tuesday (Nov. 1, 2011 – All Saints Day), President Benigno Aquino III declared (Proclamation #265) it as a holiday as well, giving Filipinos ample time to spend with their families.
