PRC cancels teachers' exam in Metro Manila
The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) said Saturday it has cancelled the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) scheduled on Sunday (Sept. 27) in testing centers in Metro Manila due to heavy flooding caused by tropical storm “Ondoy." “We decided to cancel the exams only in Metro Manila," PRC Commissioner Nilo Rosas told GMANews.TV in a phone interview Saturday night. Rosas, who is in-charge of the teachers’ exam, said the LET will push through in testing centers in Batanes, Angeles City in Pampanga, Baguio City, Tuguegarao City in Cagayan, Lucena City in Quezon, Palawan, the Visayas and Mindanao.
Rosas said PRC chairperson Justice Nicolas Lapena Jr. designated him to make the announcement and after consulting with regional directors from different parts of the country. “We cancelled the exams here in Metro Manila because some of the testing centers are being used as evacuation centers. Some schools also do not have electricity," he said. “Examiners and exam takers outside Metro Manila are already in the testing centers, so exams will push through in areas not affected by the typhoon," he added.
Rosas said the PRC might have to print a new set of exams for Metro Manila LET takers to avoid leaks. “Ang problema kasi, pare-pareho ‘yung tests na ibibigay. Gagawan na lang namin ng paraan. (The problem is that we give similar exams. We would just do something about it.) All the exam questions are in a database so this wouldn’t be a problem," he said. Rosas advised exam takers from Metro Manila to wait for further announcements from the PRC regarding the rescheduling of the LET. About 6,000 aspiring teachers were scheduled to take the LET this month. - GMANews.TV
