Pandacan Chairwoman exposes swindler

Chairwoman Milaflor Sabado‘s keen eyes for shrewd people were in full display last week when she exposed an alleged swindler trying to get more money at her expense.

Suspect Elpidio Modrigo of Alabang, Muntinlupa City, was arrested last Friday afternoon after Chairwoman Sabado was tipped off of fake certificates bearing her signature in order to solicit money from local government.

From Journal.com: “…Upon learning about the racket, Sabado wrote the councilors in the sixth district as well as Rep. Sandy Ocampo not to entertain such solicitations supposedly coming from her barangay…. This prompted Sabado to hold a meeting and decided to have him arrested, after the latter was positively identified as the one distributing the solicitation letters…”

Policemen were on alert at Pandacan Oil Depot after oil companies declared price increase the other day. Consider this as a preventive action for a possible protests and violence against the “Big 3″, according to Manila Police District spokesman Chief Inspector Erwin Margarejo.

At night, the entrance of the Zamora flyover linking Pandacan to Sta. Mesa will also be barricaded to foil any attempts to the depot. News: Teenager Fatally Shot After Trying to Escape from Prison

An 18-year old Pandacan teenager was shot and killed when he tried to escape from Manila City Jail on Tuesday June 28, 2011, according to Inquirer.

Fritz Agipo who was jailed for theft, was shot after he climbed up the prison wall and tried to jump down from the roof. A fellow inmate advised him not to continue, but Agipo didn’t listen. At around 6PM that day, he climbed up the perimeter wall but was caught by Senior Jail Officer 3 Agapito Gacuan – the jail officer on duty.

Based on the news, it appeared that the officer fired a warning shot but Agipo was relentless. He continued his attempt to escape, jumping onto the roofs of shanties beside the MCJ infirmary, prompting Gacuan to fire a second shot, which hit Agipo in the back.

He was taken to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival. (Source: Inquirer)
