Pandacan’s Teatro Balagtas and the unique and contemporary play “Balagtasin” which they staged several times the past few months in our town, were in the national news after receiving positive review from GMA News the other day.

“…Balagtasin – with its playful yet heartfelt storytelling, complex yet seamless plot lines, imaginative direction, relevant references, and promising actors – succeeds in weaving stories that span three generations…” writes Mark D. Meruenas of GMA News.

Teatro Balagtas: “Balagtasin” Para Kay Jose Rizal

Teatro Balagtas is inviting everyone to watch a play called “Balagtasin” at Casa Nazareth Multi-Purpose Hall on June 18, 2011, Saturday at 7:30 P.M. Although the performance will be about Francisco Balagtas and his love Celia, the show will be a tribute to our national hero Dr. Jose Rizal, who looked up to Balagtas when it came to writing.

Rizal also adored Ilog Beata, and featured it in his famous novels.

The performance is presented by Teatro Balagtas, Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA), and Samahang Sining at Kultura ng Pilipinas.

There will be no entrance fee for this show, but the producers are requesting everyone to come on time. Read more via RizalPark.org.

Happy 297th Birthday, Pandacan!

Today – May 30, 2009 -we also celebrate our first Pandacan Foundation Day. If everything goes according to the plan, malamang nagising kayo dahil sa ati-atihan at mga banda musika. There will be lots of fun and activities today, so make you go out and participate. ;) Kalimutan muna natin ang mga seryosong isyu tulad ng Oil Depot at magsaya muna tayo at magdiwang.

Twenty days (20) ago, the PERTH-MANILA Book Project (PMBP) were acknowledged by community leaders, Kap. Isidro Mendoza Public Library officers, and Pandacan residents because of their heart-felt donations.

A “book shower” was held at the library showing our appreciation for the enthusiastic organizers of the book projects.

What exactly is a book shower? Read ahead para malaman nyo. :P
