On June 12, 2011, we – the Filipinos – celebrated our INDEPENDENCE we first experienced 113 years ago. This year’s celebration is the first under President Noynoy Aquino’s administration.
The President delivered two speeches at different locations: one during the parade at Quirino Grandstand at Rizal Park, and the other one during the anniversary celebration at Kawit Mansion in Cavite.
During the parade at Luneta, Pres. Aquino asked the Filipinos: if Dr. Jose Rizal can see the country’s current conditions, would he ask himself if the sacrifice he made for the country more than a century ago was worth it? We are free, but a lot of our people are still immersed in poverty.
The Bottomline
President Aquino concluded that the reason for all our struggles as a country is because of corrupt leaders. He again bashed the previous administration of its wrongdoings and assured the Filipinos that he will open a new chapter in our history where we can reap what we sow; where the law applies to all with impartiality; where every Filipino is emancipated from poverty.
